SMU senior kicker Matt Szymanski was named Conference USA's special teams player of the week, thanks in large part to his school-record 61-yard field goal against Texas Tech on Sunday.

Szymanski nailed the field goal with 12 minutes left in the fourth quarter, bringing SMU closer to the Red Raiders. The Mustangs lost 35-27 in Lubbock. The kick was the second-longets in Conference USA history.

Szymanski was also 2-for-2 on field goal attempts and 3-for-3 on PATs. He had a 49.3-yard punt average, the second-highest single-game average of his career.

SMU hosts UAB at 7 p.m. at Gerald J. Ford Stadium on Saturday.
