If BYU wants to be an independent in football starting in 2011, it will need to aggressively schedule. Texas has announced that it will play a home-and-home series with BYU in 2013 and 2014.

The addition of the two-game series creates three future matchups currently scheduled between UT and BYU. The two schools are already slated to face each other in Austin on Sept. 10, 2011. Texas will travel to Provo, Utah, in 2013 and BYU will make a return trip to Austin in 2014. Dates are still being finalized.

BYU and Texas have met twice before with the Cougars winning both of those matchups. The Cougars won the first-ever meeting in Austin in 1987. BYU also claimed victory in Provo in 1988.

Oh, just the record, if BYU goes independent, TCU coach Gary Patterson made it clear that the Frogs and Cougars will no longer play. Asked if TCU would schedule an independent BYU, Patterson snapped, "No."
