NEW ORLEANS -- Baylor's Tweety Carter from Reserve, La., and LaceDarius Dunn from Monroe, La., aren't the only ones having something of a homecoming in the Crescent City.

So is Sam Houston State point guard Ashton Mitchell, who grew up in New Orleans and could barely contain his excitement when the Bearkats popped up in New Orleans.

"I really didn't think I would ever get this opportunity again to play in front of my hometown after Katrina and everything," said the senior, who averages 12.7 points and 5.1 assists. "To see our name pop up in the southand New Orleans region, I was very excited about it."

Carter and Mitchell played against each other a time or two in AAU basketball and now they'll go head-to-head at 1:45 p.m. Thursday in a do-or-die, first-round NCAA tournament game.

"I know he's going to come to play," Carter said. "He's back home, so it's going to be a fun experience tomorrow."

Carter and Dunn both have large contingencies of family and friends coming to the game.

"I probably got about 50 trying to get in the game tomorrow," Dunn said. "I think that's enough."
