If down, will Horns have enough fight?

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Texas coach Rick Barnes has a lot of worries about his sixth-seeded Longhorns. At the forefront is its fortitude, or lack of it, to battle through adversity.

The Horns had no answer in recent games when Texas A&M and Baylor rode second-half runs to easy victories. Barnes wonders how his team will respond if tonight’s first-round opponent in the Big 12 tournament, 11th-seeded Iowa State, punches Texas in the mouth.

"We’re not as resilient as I'd like to see us be when we get behind," Barnes said. "That's where we need our older guys to make a huge impact."

The fourth and final game of the day tips at 8:30 p.m.

Iowa State is coming off a major confidence boost, having won at Kansas State in overtime in last Saturday’s regular-season finale. Texas, meanwhile, got thumped at Baylor. The third-seeded Bears earned a first-round bye and await the winner of Texas-Iowa State.
