HOT SPRINGS, Ark. -- North Texas doesn't plan to wait two decades to dance again.

The Mean Green, whose previous NCAA Tournament appearances came in 1988 and 2007, are a win away from going back to the Big Dance.

UNT's 63-54 victory over Denver in the Sun Belt semifinals wasn't pretty, but it put the Mean Green in position to accomplish its goal. UNT faces No. 1 seed Troy -- a team that had an identical Sun Belt record and lost to the Mean Green at home -- in the conference tourney final Tuesday night.

The Mean Green's 10th consecutive win was much more about grit than glamour. UNT had a 10-point lead all but disappear before finishing strong.

The heavy lifters for UNT (23-8), which tied a school record for wins, were power forward George Odufuwa (16 points, 13 rebounds, three blocks) and swingman Tristan Thompson (19 points). They hope they're less than 24 hours away from lifting a conference championship trophy.
