Patterson talks Boise State and MWC
"Probably when the season is over, if that's a possibility, the questions I would raise, would it make it easier or harder for both teams to get to a BCS game, if you did that?" Patterson said. "I have heard it would raise our standards of our conference as far as being an automatic qualifier. But to be honest with you, I think we have already done that.
"And so for me, my question would be would it be tougher if Boise did join the conference? Would it be tougher for TCU, Boise, Utah, BYU and other people in our conference to be able to get to a BCS game ever year? My opinion, probably not."
I think what Patterson is saying is that the Mountain West Conference is already positioning itself for an automatic BCS bid. In two more years, it's likely to have it -- with or without Boise State. But I do think as a conference, you try to get as many good programs as you can in your league. Boise State would make the conference better, so why not get them if you can? But I see what Patterson is saying. TCU, Utah and BYU have already shown that the MWC deserves an automatic bid. Once this four-year period is up (in two years), that should happen anyway.
