Air Force flies recruits out of Texas

Air Force is playing in the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl for the third consecutive season. That might seem like overkill, but the Falcons don't mind. That's because Air Force does a great job of landing recruits in the Lone Star State, so another trip to such fertile recruiting grounds is worth it.

When the Falcons (7-5) take on Houston (10-3) at 11 a.m. on Dec. 31 at Amon G. Carter Stadium, 23 Texans will be in uniform for Air Force, and a large contingent of Texans hail from the Houston area. Air Force boasts more players from Texas than any other state.

The game's obvious matchup is the Cougars' No. 1 passing offense in the nation behind quarterback Case Keenum and Air Force's top-ranked pass defense. The game is the third between the two in the last 15 months and the second in North Texas.

The first game on Sept. 28, 2008 was moved from Houston to Dallas because of Hurricane Ike. Air Force rallied for a 31-28 win at SMU's Ford Stadium and Houston took the second meeting in the 2008 Armed Forces Bowl, 34-28. The rubber match figures to be equally entertaining.
