McCoy deserving of his multiple honors
It's easy to say that Texas quarterback Colt McCoy is winning awards because no one "jumped out" at the quarterback position this season.
But I don't think that's entirely fair. McCoy won the Maxwell and Davey O'Brien Awards on Thursday, along with the Walter Camp player of the year.
McCoy nearly made a mistake at the end of the Big 12 title game. But the bottom line is the ball went out of bounds with time still on the clock and the Longhorns won. What McCoy did in the final six games of the regular season helped put his club in position to play for a national title. He's been leading his team, even when he doesn't play his best. And I don't think anyone in the country was better in the final half of the season than McCoy.
I can tell you that watching him live many times, especially against Texas A&M, convinced me he's the best quarterback in the country this season. And he'll be one heck of a NFL quarterback too.
