No surprise, TCU is headed to Glendale, Ariz., to play in the Fiesta Bowl against ... Boise State?
That's right, two BCS-busters will face off against each other.
TCU coach Gary Patterson and his team were cheered on by about 3,500 purple-clad fans at a bowl selection watching party.
Interestingly, the announcement was made that the Frogs were selected to play in the Fiesta Bowl, but never was an opponent announced to the crowd. Was it a planned ploy by the Frog athletic department to keep the place happy and rocking for Fox's national television show? Who knows.
But, even the son of a TCU media relations staffer sent him a text saying, hey this is fun, but who are we playing?
The third-ranked Frogs might have wanted to go up against Florida or Cincinnati, but on Sunday evening, they all followed coach Gary Patterson's disciplined lead and said all the right things about their opponent and the opportunity ahead to possibly finish as high as No. 2 in the nation.
"We're playing a great team," standout TCU defensive end Jerry Hughes said. "It's going to be a four-quarter, hard-fought game."
It will also be the third time TCU and Boise have met in a bowl game since 2003. TCU defeated Boise, 17-16, last year at the Poinsettia Bowl.
"It's something we can't control," quarterback Andy Dalton said of the matchup. "I think we canmake a statement with this game."
