The Boston Red Sox on Wednesday tied up a few loose ends before heading to Fort Myers, signing four players to minor league contracts and announcing 20 non-roster invitees to spring training.

The four free agents, all placed on the Triple-A Pawtucket roster and all invited to spring training as non-roster players:

* Matt Fox: The 28-year-old righthanded pitcher was claimed off waivers by the Red Sox on Sept. 9 and appeared in three games for Boston last season. He was designated for assignment by the Red Sox on Jan. 5 and released on Jan. 13. He made his major league debut for the Twins last season and has a career 3.71 ERA in 145 minor league games.

* Tony Pena, Jr.: The son of former Red Sox catcher Tony Pena, the 29-year-old righthanded pitcher is a converted shortstop, having spent only the last season-plus as a pitcher. Between the Double-A and Triple-A levels in the San Francisco organization last season, Pena had a 4.13 ERA in 76 1/3 innings.

* Paul Hoover: The 34-year-old catcher appeared in nine games for the Phillies last season. He has played in 40 major league games over seven seasons for his career.

* Hector Luna: The 31-year-old infielder hit .294 with 16 homers and 71 RBIs in 97 games for the Marlins’ Triple-A affiliate last season. Luna has played in 311 career major league games over parts of six seasons with four clubs. He also appeared in five postseason games with the Cardinals, getting an at bat as a pinch hitter against the Red Sox in the 2004 World Series (he made an out).
