ESPN The Magazine’s Buster Olney recently spent some time with Red Sox first baseman Adrian Gonzalez and spoke to him about his recovery from shoulder surgery and playing in Boston. He blogged about it here on Thursday (Insider). Among the things we learned:

* Like Carl Crawford, Gonzalez has yet to find a place to live in Boston, choosing instead to focus on getting himself ready for the season instead of shopping for a home.

* Gonzalez recently played catch for the first time and is on schedule to start swinging a bat toward the end of February. While getting stretched out on a trainer’s table at the San Diego Padres’ facilities on Monday, Gonzalez held his surgically repaired right shoulder in an "L" and could see that his range of motion had improved, even from last week. He told Olney he is glad to be getting back to lifting weights. "I was starting to get frustrated," Gonzalez joked, "because I was getting man boobs."

* Because the Padres' training staff is headed to Arizona on Feb. 7, Gonzalez is thinking about going to Fort Myers, Fla. that week, to the Red Sox spring training site, to continue his own work.
