The Red Sox on Thursday promoted 22-year-old lefthanded pitcher Felix Doubront from Portland to Triple-A Pawtucket after an impressive start to the season with the Sea Dogs.

Here’s a little background on Doubront’s season from SoxProspects.com:

Doubront, the 7th-ranked prospect in the system according to SoxProspects.com, had made eight starts, allowing 13 runs, 12 earned, in 43.0 innings, giving up 39 hits and 17 walks while striking out 38. Some believed the 22-year-old Venezuelan was a candidate to begin the 2010 season in Pawtucket after spending all of 2009 in Portland, earning the club's Pitcher of the Year award.

In 34 Double-A starts, Doubront put up a 12-6 record and 3.13 ERA. In 164.0 innings, he allowed 72 runs, 57 earned, on 158 hits and 69 walks, striking out 139 hitters. A two-time SoxProspects.com Post-Season All-Star (2006, 2008), he signed with the Red Sox as an international free agent in July of 2004.
