Ellsbury unlikely to play before return home

April, 14, 2010
MINNEAPOLIS -- Red Sox manager Terry Francona said Wednesday that "realistically" it might not be until the team returns to Boston on Friday that outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury returns to the lineup.

Ellsbury bruised his ribs on the left side in a collision with third baseman Adrian Beltre and is still reporting soreness and some trouble breathing.

"[The soreness] is a little more centrally isolated, which is good,'' Francona said. "But he's having trouble rotating. As much as we love having him in there, it's not a good thing to get him back quick.''

Ellsbury was replaced in left field by Jeremy Hermida for Wednesday afternoon's game against the Minnesota Twins.

Here is today's Red Sox lineup:

1. Marco Scutaro, SS
2. Dustin Pedroia, 2B
3. Victor Martinez, C
4. Kevin Youkilis, 1B
5. David Ortiz, DH
6. Adrian Beltre, 3B
7. J.D. Drew, RF
8. Mike Cameron, CF
9. Jeremy Hermida, LF
SP -- John Lackey, RHP
