BOSTON -- Red Sox outfielder Carl Crawford played his first minor league rehab game for the Gulf Coast League Red Sox on Saturday morning in Fort Myers, Fla., and went 0-for-3 with two walks, one intentional, as the team's designated hitter.

"His legs were still underneath him at the end of the game and he felt pretty good," said Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine.

Crawford will have an off day Sunday and DH again Monday. If all progresses, he should be able to play the field at some point in the upcoming week.

"You gotta be patient and take time and do everything the right way," he told reporters in Florida. "Things go well when you do that."

Crawford was satisfied with Saturday's progress.

"I'd like to play as soon as possible and feel as good as soon I can so I can get into the (Red Sox) lineup as soon as I can," he
said.
