BOSTON -- The weekend series with Atlanta is likely the last trip to Boston for Braves third baseman Chipper Jones, who has hinted at retirement after this, his 19th year. Jones was Public Enemy No. 1 for many of the years that Valentine managed the New York Mets, in large part because he often got the better of Bobby's bunch.

"Chip's been a thorn in my managerial side, that's for sure. Terrific player," Valentine said. "I've seen him for the better part of a couple of decades. I saw him always rise to the occasion. He's a special player. One of those guys who are out there who walked his talk, lived his dream and got everyone's attention."

Jones is a career .316 hitter against the Mets, whom Valentine managed through much of Jones' prime. The Braves star has 48 home runs against New York, more than any other team.
