CHICAGO -- Carl Crawford is throwing up to 110 feet, Bobby Valentine said Saturday, and "hit it really well" while taking batting practice.

Conclusion? "I've got to think he's close to playing in a baseball game,'' Valentine said.

Other updates:

* Jacoby Ellsbury did not accompany the team here, instead heading from Miami to Fort Myers to continue his rehab there.

* Cody Ross began his rehab Saturday night with Pawtucket.

* Aaron Cook is scheduled to pitch for Pawtucket on Monday.

* Valentine expects Franklin Morales is capable of giving the team more than five innings Sunday -- he was stretched out to 4 1/3 innings on June 3 and followed that up with a three-inning stint June 9. "We have the off day, with a stacked bullpen, whatever he gives us should be enough.''
