BOSTON -- Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia left Monday’s game against the Detroit Tigers after jamming his right thumb making a play in the field, the team announced.

In the top of the fifth, Pedroia made a diving stop on a ball hit by Danny Worth, ranging far to his left to make the play and throw out the runner for the final out of the inning. He was shown in the dugout getting the thumb worked on between innings and did not come out for the Tigers’ sixth.

He was replaced at second base by Nick Punto.
