FORT MYERS, Fla. – Shortstop Marco Scutaro will hit ninth today, marking the fourth straight day that he’s occupied a different spot in the batting order.

He hit sixth Saturday, was in the leadoff spot Friday, and second on Thursday.

Manager Terry Francona said Scutaro has been good about hitting in different spots. When he’s ninth, Francona said having an “on-base guy” in that spot can be a nice way to turn the lineup over, and that's where Scutaro will hit during the season.

Yet Scutaro’s bat hasn’t gotten going this spring. He’s 1 for 11 over the last three games, and is hitting .140 overall.

“My timing is off," Scutaro said this morning. "Sometimes I’m too early, sometimes I’m too late. That’s just the hardest part of hitting – the timing -- and every pitcher does something different. I’ll be fine.”
