FORT MYERS, Fla. – A few quick hits from Terry Francona’s meeting with reporters this morning:

Mike Lowell to hit today. “He came in yesterday, obviously pretty sore. By the time he left yesterday, they had done some pretty good work with him and he felt better. He’s going to hit today. The next couple of days I have Beltre/Lowell, and hopefully one will play one [game], one will play the other. We’ll see how he feels.”

J.D. Drew gets second day off in a row. “Just to let him get some work in. He’ll play tomorrow night. We’re getting down to that time where I want everybody to feel good.”

Playing it safe with Jeremy Hermida’s hamstring. “I don’t think there is any thing to believe this is anything remotely close to long-term. He feels it, it’s tender, it’s not pulled. Just want to make sure he’s OK.”

Pitching notes. The plan is to give reliever Manny Delcarmen two innings in Monday’s minor-league game, with Daisuke Matsuzaka pitching three innings in a minor-league game that day. … Tim Wakefield will pitch in a minor-league game Tuesday and his workload will be cut back to three innings as he’ll pitch again Saturday in Washington. Casey Kelly will start the major-league game that day against Tampa Bay. "It'll be fun for us to get to get to watch him and it will be a good experience for him," Francona said.
