ESPNBoston.com's Joe McDonald joined Gordon Edes at Red Sox spring training at JetBlue Park on Friday, and they discussed the events of the day, including Tim Wakefield's retirement and Jason Varitek’s unresolved status.

Joe says that while he wasn't surprised by Wakefield's decision, he thought that Wake would give it one more shot and compete for a spot in spring training. Regardless, Joe says, "Good for him, great career."

The guys also weighed in on Josh Beckett's bullpen session.
