ESPN Insider's Jim Bowden tweeted Friday that David Ortiz's arbitration showdown with the Red Sox will be resolved Monday, one way or another, as that's when the arbitration hearing will take place:

@JimBowdenESPNxm
BoSox vs Ortiz in Salary Arbitration on Monday...Red Sox offered $12.65m..Ortiz submitted $16.5m his last deal avg was $12.9m.

Ortiz made $12.5 million last year; the Sox's offer represents a modest raise of $150,000. ESPNBoston.com's Gordon Edes reported last week that if the sides do go to a hearing, it will be the team's first since Rolando Arrojo in 2002.

Ortiz hasn't wavered in his desire for a multiyear contract, but the Sox haven't really seemed willing to tie up much more money beyond what it might cost them for this year alone.

If the hearing takes place Monday, an arbitration panel will decide on whether to award the team's offer or Ortiz's proposal as the player's salary for 2012. A decision is unlikely to come before Tuesday.
