FORT MYERS, Fla. – Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia joked with reporters this morning when asked why he wasn’t in the lineup for today’s exhibition game against the Toronto Blue Jays.

“It’s not injury related. I got benched,” Pedroia cracked. “I told Tito he looked like Corrado Soprano, and he benched me.”

Pedroia has been sidelined with a sprained left wrist. On Thursday, manager Terry Francona said Pedroia was expected to be in the lineup today.

Pedroia, who was on his way to the batting cage, said this morning: “Seriously, they told me I needed another day. ... It’s spring training. If this was the season and he didn’t play me, it’s going to get ugly. I’m fine. He’s just giving me an extra day. It’s no big deal.”

Pedroia said he would be in the lineup Saturday.
