According to a source familiar with the contract, the Red Sox have re-signed pitcher Tony Pena Jr. to a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training. He'd earn $625,000 if he makes the big-league team.

The 30-year-old Pena, son of the former major league catcher and current Yankees bench coach, spent most of his career as a shortstop for the Braves and Royals, but was converted to a pitcher by Kansas City in 2009. Last season for the PawSox he finished 9-6 with a 3.56 ERA.
