FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Prior to the Red Sox exhibition game today against the Florida Marlins, manager Terry Francona talked about the nice spring that outfielder Jeremy Hermida has put together.

“He’s played left and right and has swung the bat very well. I can see where he’ll be one of our guys that hits a lot,” Francona said. “He likes to hit. It gives us a nice … if J.D. [Drew] goes down or if we want to give Cam [Mike Cameron] a day off, it’s a nice left-handed bat.”

Hermida, who entered the day hitting .400 in 13 games (14 of 35), continued his strong spring today, going 2-for-2 with a walk. He lined a double to left in the third inning and delivered an RBI single to right in the fifth.

Hermida is now out of the game, with Francona pulling him in favor of a pinch-runner after a sixth-inning walk.
