ARLINGTON, Texas -- With Hurricane Irene set to pound the East Coast in the next few days, the Boston Red Sox may need to change the minor-league rehab assignments for outfielder J.D. Drew and pitcher Bobby Jenks.

Drew (left shoulder impingement) took batting practice at Fenway Park on Thursday and is scheduled to begin a four-game minor league rehab assignment, beginning with Single-A Lowell on Friday. He’s set to DH for the Spinners, but due to the impending storm, Red Sox manager Terry Francona said the organization is trying to figure out what’s best for the veteran outfielder.

Jenks (back) is currently at Single-A Salem and is scheduled to throw one inning in a rehab outing on Saturday, but the storm may change that.

“We’ll see how it goes and we’ll be ready to adjust,” Francona said. “Health-wise they’re OK. We’ll just need to figure out where this storm is going and when.”

Also, third baseman Kevin Youkilis (back) participated in soft-toss drills Thursday at Fenway.
