ORLANDO -- The Boston Red Sox signed Dominican shortstop Raymel Flores on Friday for $900,000, his agent told ESPNdeportes.com.

“We reached an agreement only a few hours ago. Raymel and his family are very happy,” said Alfredo Arias, from the Arias and Goodman Baseball Academy in San Pedro de Macoris.

The agreement is subject to a physical and the approval of the commissioner’s Office.

Flores, 16, is a switch hitter with outstanding defensive skills.

“Even though he is not very tall, he is a winner who can make an impact on the field”, Arias said.
