BOSTON -- Red Sox starter Jon Lester was removed from Tuesday's game against the Blue Jays after four no-hit innings with a left lat strain.

Lester was replaced by reliever Matt Albers.

The Sox left-hander had gone four scoreless innings with one walk and five strikeouts. He threw a total of 50 pitches, 35 for strikes.

In the top of the fourth, the Jays’ Corey Patterson hit a comebacker to the mound. Lester knocked the ball down with his glove, but needed to come off the mound to retrieve the ball and make a quick throw to first. Lester then retired the next two batters.

In the dugout, Red Sox manager Terry Francona was seen speaking with team trainer Mike Reinold.

Lester entered his 18th start of the season with a 10-4 record, along with a 3.43 ERA.
