BOSTON -- Carl Crawford had to leave the game in the bottom of the first because of an apparent leg injury.

Crawford hit a two-out roller to third base. He hustled down the line and beat Casey MeGehee’s strong throw for an infield single. But he walked slowly back to the bag, hunched over, and stood on the bag, his head down.

Manager Terry Francona and trainer Mike Reinold went out to check on Crawford, and a short time later they escorted Crawford, walking slowly and still with his head down, back to the dugout.

Crawford was replaced by Darnell McDonald.
