NEW YORK -- With Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia back in Boston to have his right knee examined, Marco Scutaro is in the Sox lineup tonight at second base. Jed Lowrie is back at shortstop after an MRI on his left shoulder came back clean, according to manager Terry Francona.

Catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia was also back with the club after spending the night in the hospital with what Francona described as “intestinal turmoil.’’ Saltalamacchia was administered fluids intravenously but also was able to eat. He was scheduled to take batting practice, and be available on an emergency basis.

Besides starter Jason Varitek, the Sox have another catcher in uniform, Luis Exposito, who was called up Wednesday from Pawtucket.

Reliever Franklin Morales, meanwhile, who was shut down May 29 with a strained left forearm, is scheduled to join the PawSox Friday in Norfolk, Va., for the start of a rehab assignment. Morales is scheduled to pitch Friday night, then again on Sunday.
