BOSTON -- Boston Red Sox outfielder Carl Crawford has earned American League Player of the Week honors for his torrid offensive showing in Boston’s seven-game road trip through Cleveland and Detroit last week, it was announced Tuesday.

The left fielder batted a sizzling .423 (11 for 26) in the seven games with two doubles, two triples, three homers and eight RBIs. Crawford also was tops in the majors in total bases (26) and slugging percentage (1.000) for the week.

Crawford, whose dazzling week showed he may be emerging from his season-long slump, was especially unstoppable in back-to-back games against Cleveland and Detroit. He went 4 for 4 against the Indians on May 25, including two doubles, a homer, two RBIs and three runs scored and followed that up with a 4-for-5 performance the next day against the Tigers that featured two triples, three RBIs and a pair of runs scored.

The 29-year-old was only the second Red Sox hitter to post back-to-back four-hit games since 1990. Dustin Pedroia accomplished the feat in 2008.

Boston won those two games, 14-2 and 14-1, respectively.

This is the fourth time in his career that Crawford has won the weekly honor. He last earned it on June 21, 2010. Crawford will be given a watch for winning the award.

“I feel very grateful,” said Crawford. “I’m feeling a lot more comfortable at the plate. I’m definitely feeling more relaxed lately. I put a lot of pressure on myself early. Hopefully I can keep swinging the bat well.”
