25th anniversary of Clemens' 20 K's
BOSTON -- Tonight marks the 25th anniversary of Clemens’ 20-strikeout game against the Seattle Mariners at Fenway Park on April 29, 1986.
Those 20 whiffs established a major league record, since tied by Clemens himself, on Sept. 18, 1996, at Detroit, and the Cubs’ Kerry Wood, on May 6, 1998. Arizona’s Randy Johnson also had 20 punchouts in the first nine innings of an 11-game against Cincinnati.
